Brian's 32nd and Ana's 3rd Birthdays (1/28/2010)

We love you both so much!! We hope you had a very special day. Thank you to everyone who helped us celebrate, and thank you to everyone who gave and sent birthday wishes.

Brian's cake...
Ana's cake.

One of Ana's fav foods right now is mozzerella cheese sticks so she was really excited to have them as part of her b-day meal.

Some of you know that I am a nanny, so unscheduled time comes only a couple hours a week. I had scheduled a combined visting teaching with 2 sisters from the ward. I showed up with cupcakes and asked if we could sing Happy Birthday to Ana, and this would be her "friend" b-day party. There were 7 kids, 3 moms, cupcakes and even some presents pulled out of a closet. Perfect!

Playing Catch Up

We were so lucky to have Emily come and visit for Christmas. We had lots of fun and can't wait to see you again. Hopefully in NY next time---hmmm, wishful thinking. We love you!

Hope you had a nice b-day Dave! We love you.
I think Ana's eyes look crazy here.

Mya's 5th birthday was Sept 22, 2009-- right after Rachel's wedding & reception. We had a big family party a couple days earlier since amost everyone was still in town, and ate lots of cake and leftover reception food (which is all captured on my video camera). On her actual b-day, we were all sick of sweets, so I had her blow out candles on a smiley face assembled out of fruit. She loved it (even though it looks kinda' lame)!

And Christmas is also captured on my video camera, which I don't know how to upload..so here are a few shots of how cute the girls looked in their fancy dresses and holiday earrings from Great Grandma.

Did you know that Santa is in our ward? Ana does. Ever since Bro. Miller dyed his hair and beard white--she has been excited to greet and hug him at church each week in December. At the Christmas Party she went and sat next to him as he was eating his ham & potatoes (and no, he was not in costume) and asked him at least 5 times if he, Santa, would chase her around the gym. She also kept trying to run out of the gym to find the reindeer who she assumed were outside somewhere on the lawn. The first week in January when Bro. Miller shaved his beard and buzzed his hair, she wouldn't go near him when he came over to say hi. She had no idea who he was. We had to explain to him that Ana knows Santa went back to the North Pole, and she didn't recognize her favorite friend anymore. I felt kinda' sad for him because he lost a friend :(

And honestly, neither Brian nor I recognized him at first either. He had long hair and a long beard when we moved into the ward, and the shave took at least 20 years off of him. It was pretty weird!

My new most embarassing moment story

So, some of you know that I was asked to give a talk in sacrament meeting on Sunday, Jan 17th. The topic was prayer, as outlined in the True to the Faith booklet, with an emphasis on sharing my own personal experiences. I had been contemplating my talk for almost 2 weeks and knew exactly what the Lord wanted me to share, but I was not feeling well at all from allergies and a possible sinus infection. I decided to write out my entire talk so I could just be on auto pilot while standing in front of the congregation, especially since what I was taking about made me cry all the time while I was thinking about it.
On Saturday morning I took one Mucinex pill which worked really well, but also made me feel jittery and dizzy. I was still feeling this way on Sunday morning as I got ready and went to church. I decided not to go up on the stand until after the sacrament in case looking over the congregation made me more dizzy. When it was my turn to speak I stood up and said, "I just wanted to warn you that I'm not feeling very well so I took a new allergy medicine which is making me feel jittery and like there are spiders crawling on my skin. If I start swaying back and forth you will know why." Some people chuckled, and I saw a couple people say "Awww.." with sympathy.
I began my talk and half way into it, I started to see stars, everything within my scope of vision became fuzzy and gray and slowly diminished until I could see about as much as in a door's peep hole. I knew I was about to faint. I stopped speaking for a few seconds (which I am sure made everyone look up to see why I stopped speaking), and said to myself, "Get it together. Get it together!!". The next thing I recall was waking up on the floor behind the podium as a nurse was pounding my chest. I could hear everyone for a second or two before my eyes could open. Finally I made out about 10 shadows of faces, and slowly looked through them until I found Brian's. I was thinking that I was such an idiot, and then I wondered if my legs and everything were covered from my fall. Luckily they were!
They told me that I had passed out and just as I was falling the Bishop stood up and caught me, then laid me on the ground. Then four medical students, two nurses, the bishopric, and a friend with a bottle of water raced up to see what happened and to see what they could do. Brian said that initially he just stayed in his seat since the girls were with him, and he figured the med students would have everything under control. Someone behind him nudged him and said he should go up there, so he did. I must have been out a little bit because I didn't wake up until everyone was already hanging over me. I was soooooo embarassed.
After the nurse yelled at me for not eating any breakfast, the bishop asked what I would like to do; leave the chapel, sit for a rest, finish my talk, or whatever. Brian whispered to me that he would carry me out of there if I wanted him to. I was thinking that would be nice, but also be embarassing. I really just wanted to finish my talk. I felt like what I was saying was really important for someone to hear.
After a rest hymn, and a few sips of water, I finished my talk as I sat in a chair behind the podium and read into a hand held microphone. I didn't really know what to say to overcome my embarassment so I said, "I am so sorry. I am soooo embarassed. I feel like I need to move out of the ward now. Here I am telling a story about Brian falling on the floor when he started shaking and I do the same thing. It's like a really good prop for dramatic effect." and then everyone laughed and I was a little more at ease.
I don't think I looked up once at the audience from then on. I tried to concentrate on reading the small print and bringing the spirit back into the meeting. Afterwards many people told me that there were many people crying during the beginning of my talk and that the spirit was really strong through the meeting even with my fainting. I knew that the Lord wanted me to share my message, and I am glad that I was able to finish. Oh, and if anyone wants to read my talk, I can forward it to you by email.

Ana Singing

We were stuck in the car for a little bit, so I decided to take advantage of the time by videoing Ana singing...

I love it when Ana sings this song, because it means she is HAPPY! She will joyfully gallop around the house singing it over & over when she is in a good mood.

Okay, so I feel like a bad mom because Ana has known her ABCs for over a year now, and she was completely adorable singing it just after she turned 2 yrs old, but I only got it on camera a couple months ago. Oh well!

December 21, 2010 "This gets kinda' churchy"

I was watching a Nostradamus video the other day with Emily & Brian which got me thinking. I don't necessarily believe that 12/21/2012 is the day the world will end-- but my resolution is to be a noticeably better person, mother, and wife by 12/21/2012. This really isn't that far away; less than 3 years. I think that if I knew I would die in some terrible natural disaster in 3 years, that I could make it that long doing more of what I am supposed to.

I know, you are probably thinking that you should live like you are dying every day because one day you will-- but, it is a continual journey to righteousness, not just one day of all good choices. If it really takes 21 days to form a habit, then I should be regularly doing a lot more good things in 3 years than today. If anything, at least I will be consciously thinking about trying harder for awhile, and I can tell you that this is already working.

I think I am definitely more patient with others, and have been trying to solve more problems with love. I have also been reading some sort of LDS book in my spare time which keeps my mind on "goodness" throughout the day. Well, I will admit that this started because I am giving a sac mtg talk next Sunday and I wanted to be in tune to give the correct message. But the result is excellent no matter what the reason.

Anyway, here are a few more things I wanted to testify as a result of my thoughts from watching that video. I don't really believe (nor depend, thank goodness) on death bed forgiveness. I believe that the Lord will forgive you as you try to do your best everyday. I know that once you have been taught the truth, you are accountable. I am grateful that every time we come unto The Father, he will be so ready to forgive. I also know that our Heavenly Father wants to bless us with all that we righteously need, but I learned through more studying that some blessings are not given but through much prayer and fasting. I always just thought that if you fasted, you were showing more faith and humility when asking for something-- but some blessings literally may not be given unless you fast (ex: Christ casting out the devil, after the apostles couldn't make it leave). If you have been consistently praying, reading, pondering, and serving to receive an answer for something-- don't forget to FAST. That may be just what is still required for you to receive an answer, or a blessing if the Lord wants you to have it.

Sometimes life can feel really long, but with my new outlook I have more of a feeling that today is important. I am ready to start praying again for Christ to return and I hope to be ready when that prayer is answered. I have a hope for my family and friends to be ready with me. We can do it-- because with the Lord's help, it is completely attainable!!
